The Newport News Police Department’s School Resource Officer is investigating a fundraiser at Hidenwood Elementary School that resulted in people possibly becoming the victims of fraud.

Police say a suspect received money last fall from what was portrayed to be a school fundraiser.

Exact details of the “fundraiser” were not provided, just that the “fundraiser” was not sanctioned by any Newport News Public School or Administrator.

The suspect is known but has not been formally charged, pending the investigation and contact with potential victims.

Anyone who believes they may be a victim in this case is asked to contact Officer Amanda Cooper by email at cooperaa@nngov.com and provide their contact information.
