Posted

A driver is in the hospital in serious condition after a traffic accident in the 1100 block of Independence Boulevard on Thursday night.

Virginia Beach Police say the multi-vehicle crash occurred around 10:50 p.m. when the driver of a 2000 Jeep Cherokee failed to yield to northbound traffic while entering the northbound lanes of Independence Blvd.

The Cherokee struck a 2007 Suzuki Vitara, sending it into the guardrail and causing it to flip over.

The Cherokee then struck a 2007 GMA Acadia, causing it to come to rest in the parking lot of McDonald Garden Center.

Occupants of the Vitara and Acadia were transported to local hospitals for treatment of their minor injuries.

The operator of the Cherokee was transported to a local hospital and is listed in serious condition.

Charges are pending.
