Portsmouth, Va. – If you drove through a section of Portsmouth on Monday, the Health Department has a warning for you: Take extra care when you wash your car.

An Atlantic Plumbing truck had a mechanical failure and spilled sewage on the road in three different intersections on Airline Blvd. and Frederick Blvd. yesterday.

Roads were closed while crews worked for more than eight hours to clean up the mess.

The Health Department says anyone who drove the through the sewage should be careful when cleaning their cars because the sewage could cause gastroenteritis – a bad stomach bug.
