Getting behind the wheel of a car after drinking alcohol can be deadly, but a new survey shows walking drunk to your destination can be nearly as dangerous.

VDOT says half of all pedestrians between 25 and 34-years-old who were killed had a blood alcohol level above the legal driving limit.

In comparison, only 13 of the drivers involved in pedestrian fatalities were above the legal alcohol limit.

The Governor’s Highway Safety Council says DUI campaigns may encourage more people to walk instead of drive.
