Chesapeake, Va. – The recurrent Sunday night closure of the Gilmerton Bridge (Route 13/Military Highway) will be delayed two hours on Sunday, Aug. 18, and Sunday, Aug. 25, 2013, closing at 10 p.m. and reopening at 5 a.m. on each of the following Monday mornings. Maritime traffic will not be affected by the closure.
Motorists should be advised that the Gilmerton Bridge will continue to close at its usual time at 8 p.m. each evening, Monday through Thursday, Aug. 19-22 and Aug. 26-29 respectively, and will reopen each morning at 5 a.m.
During the weeknight closures, motorists are encouraged to use the Interstate 64 High Rise Bridge as the preferred alternate route. In addition, the South Norfolk Jordan Bridge in Chesapeake can be used as a tolled alternate route.
