Yvette Young, Vice President of Programs and Operations for the Urban League of Hampton Roads, Inc., joins us today to discuss the upcoming event to help local students.

The Urban League of Hampton Roads Partners with Kam Cares Foundation to host a Back-to-School Supplies Drive - 200 children in Norfolk’s Park Place Community will receive new backpacks and school supplies.

The Kam Cares Foundation and the Urban League of Hampton Roads (ULHR) will provide backpacks filled with school supplies for 200 children in the Park Place community – one of Norfolk’s most economically disadvantaged neighborhoods.

To augment donations, the ULHR and Kam Cares Foundation have also launched a public donation drive to solicit support from the community.

Local businesses and community residents are encouraged to bring supplies or monetary donations to the McDonald’s on St. Pauls Boulevard Downtown Norfolk on August 27 between 5:00 p.m. and 7:00 p.m.

Each donor will receive a complimentary sample of McDonald’s new Blueberry Pomegranate or Mango Pineapple smoothie, as part of the McCafé Smoothie Fusion Tour.

A donation of $55 will provide backpacks and supplies for five children. The ULHR will also accept donations at its Norfolk and Virginia Beach offices during business hours.

The Urban League of Hampton Roads and Kam Cares Foundation, founded by NFL star Kam Chancellor of the Seattle Seahawks, have partnered with the Park Place Community Center to identify children and families with the greatest need. To thank donors for their support, Chancellor will treat the top five contributors to dinner upon his return to the Hampton Roads area.
