James City County, Va. - Neighbors heard screams from the parking lot of the apartment complex on Harpoon Court after police say a woman was violently attacked by two gunmen.
Lauren Haywood lives next door and heard the whole thing.
"It was just loud shouting. We only made out a little bit about, "You took everything and what do you want. I turned the lights out and I just kind of was like lock the doors," Haywood said.
Investigators tell NewsChannel 3 the attack happened around 9 p.m.
Police say the woman heard knocking and when she went to open the door, no one was outside. Then she came out to her car where the two men approached her.
They were holding two handguns and a knife according to police.
The woman says they pushed her into her home, demanded money, and hit her in the face with one of the guns.
"That would be horrifying, of course. I would obviously give them what they came for and hope that they wouldn't hurt me. It's frightening to know it happened right next door to my house," Haywood added.
Haywood also said she stopped her boyfriend from going out to help because she thought the woman was having an argument with a friend.
"He wanted to come outside and I said, 'No it's none of our business.' And he was really upset afterward knowing that she was robbed like, 'Oh my God.' I could have done something, but he didn't have a weapon so luckily he didn't come outside and that could have escalated it and made it worse," she said.
Officers say the suspects ran off with just $50, but the attack is enough to make Haywood start searching for a new apartment.
"I'm trying to find a place I'm probably going to end up moving I think. That's what my boyfriend wants and he wants to get a weapon and he's all scared so its definitely not good," she said.
Police say they don't have any suspects.
