Newport News, Va. - Police are on the scene of an early-morning double shooting in the 1100 block of 34th Street in Newport News.
Two men, 38 and 40-years-old, were taken to a local hospital for surgery.
One is still in a life threatening situation and the other appears to be stable, according to police.
Police say one of the men walked out of a home and became involved in an altercation with at least one other person.
The second victim and a third man ran out to help the first victim before the first two men were shot and the third man fled.
The suspect is described only as a black man dressed in dark clothing and was last seen running toward 35th Street.
