Rep. Bobby Scott’s Office evacuated in Newport News

Newport News, Va. - Congressman Bobby Scott's Newport News District Office has been evacuated as a precautionary measure due to an envelope that has been deemed suspicious.

It happened on Thursday afternoon, September 5, 2013. The top three floors of the building were evacuated as a precautionary measure, according to officials.

Battalion Chief J. Douglas Carper with the Newport News Fire Department says the bomb squad has inspected the envelope, and reports no explosives.

HazMat crews are now testing the envelope.

The office is located in the 2600 block of Washington Avenue in Newport News.
