Maddy is a senior captain of the Falcons Field Hockey Team and will be headed to Ohio State University next year. But before going, she had one thing she wants to accomplish before leaving Cox High School - a state championship.
The time is now. For the Cox Falcons Field Hockey Team, timing is everything as they prepare for a state title run.
The Falcons returned to the field with the same core players who took them to the state championship game last year only to have the clock strike midnight. The loss was only harder because they fell to their cross town rivals, the First Colonial Patriots 3-1.
This is a new year and a new determination. The Falcons are led by their senior captain Maddy Humphrey. She started playing the game at the age of 12.
Her coach says she is one of those few players who is the complete package
Watching Maddy play, you can see the intensity she brings to the field and that ferociousness she has only rubs off on her teammates. She led the team in goals last year with 18 and in two games this year, she has 5.
Maddy scored a winning goal in last year’s state semi-final game against Mountain View in overtime to break a 2-2 tie.
Next year, Maddy will head off to Columbus Ohio to play for the Ohio State University Buckeyes, a school where she made an instant connection.
She plans to major in special education and hopes to one day coach the sports she fell in love with. But for now, it’s back to practice and focus on the Green Run Stallions.
