Beach mom says she’s not responsible for 13-month-old son’s death

Virginia Beach, Va. - Police say Amanda Barrington's 13-month-old son is dead because she didn't take care of him.

"Next month would have been his two-year birthday and a month after that the one year anniversary of his death. A year later and they're gonna come after me and try to tell me I did that? Really?" Barrington said.

Barrington called police last November, after she woke up in her Birch Lake Road apartment to find her infant son, Devin, dead in his bed. Friday, nearly 10 months after her son died, she posed for her mug shot.

The 23-year-old mother says her baby boy had been acting differently the day before his death.

"That day he woke up, ate a little bit, took a nap, ate a little bit, took a nap. He took like 15 naps, it's just not normal. He never did that," Barrington said.

But she didn't think much of it.

"Damn me for not taking him to the doctor," Barrington said. "It'd been a couple hours, okay he'll be fine."

Barrington says police told her that her son had starved and his ribs were sticking out.
The dead toddler's mother insists he had eaten throughout the day.

"I really don't want to believe it," Barrington said. "I still feel like I'm in shock. I don't like to talk about it because I get upset."

Barrington sits in jail, upset at not only what happened to her son, but that she's been charged with felony child neglect, only adding to her pain.
