Virginia Beach, Va. - Congratulations are in order for a Virginia Beach English teacher. Carrie Gantt from Princess Anne High School has been named the 2014 Region 2 Teacher of the Year by the Virginia Department of Education (VDOE).

She began her career as a high school teacher in South Carolina before moving to Virginia. Gantt has taught at Princess Anne High School for all of the 14 years she has been with the division. She is currently in her 24th year of teaching.

Gantt was selected in April as the Virginia Beach Citywide Teacher of the Year from an initial pool of 86 teachers of the year representing each city school.

Gantt will now move on to compete for the title of Virginia 2014 Teacher of the Year, an honor which will be presented at an awards program on Oct. 11 in Richmond.
