A Georgia lawmaker is catching heat from a statement he reportedly made while arguing against a special exemption that will allow staffers on the Hill to purchase health insurance.
According to Politico, Representative Phil Gingrey said staffers may not be making much money now, but in a few years they can go to K Street and make $500,000 a year. Then he allegedly goes on to say, “Meanwhile, I’m stuck here making $172,000 a year.”
Aides who were angry over the statement went to the National Review.
Gingrey reportedly told the review that he did not remember exactly what he said, but he stood by his position on the issue.
