Woman’s stolen wallet turns up on Newport News athletic field

Newport News, Va. – A woman’s wallet was stolen out of her purse while she was shopping in Newport News, police tell NewsChannel 3.

It happened on Tuesday, September 17, 2013. Between 8 p.m. and 8:50 p.m., a 61-year-old woman had her wallet stolen from her purse while she was shopping at the Walmart store located at 6111 Jefferson Avenue.

Several hundred dollars in cash, credit cards, and other personal items were in the stolen wallet.

The theft occurred while the woman’s attention was diverted from her purse, which was on her shopping cart.

The woman discovered that her wallet had been stolen when she went to make her purchases.

Police say on Wednesday, September 18, security at a local high school found the wallet on a school field.

All property was recovered except the cash.

Police need help finding the suspect.
