(CNN) — Ask yourself how fast can you run a mile? Be truthful, no one is checking. Can you beat 11 minutes and 6 seconds?

Maybe you could beat 11 minutes, if you had good sneakers, comfortable shorts a light weight t-shirt.

Now, imagine wearing 75 pounds of explosive resistant protective gear from the top of your head to your toes. Now could you run a mile in 11:06?

Army 1st Lt. Ashley Sorensen of the 303rd Explosive Ordnance Disposal Battalion in Hawaii can.

She broke the world record for a woman running the mile in a full bomb disposal suit, according to the Army.

Correction, she didn’t break it, she destroyed it. She demolished the record by more than 2.5 minutes.

Sorensen trained for 18 months for the world record attempt.

“We finally did it, it feels awesome, and I really appreciate everybody coming out for it!” the Milwaukee native said on Monday after it was over.

But this wasn’t just a stunt, the training she did to run the mile will help on the job when she works to disarm bombs.

“Whenever EOD goes out in the bomb suits for a manual approach, it’s really important that we’re able to work and sweat in the suit and still be able perform,” Sorensen said. “So making it a competition when we train helps with that. Running a mile like this is definitely a challenge.”

The record was set on the track at the University of Hawaii’s Manoa campus.

The Guinness Book of World Records is reviewing the run in order to make the record official.
