Norfolk Fire-Rescue is currently responding to a natural gas leak in the 5900 block of Chesapeake Boulevard.
The leak has been secured.
Fire Crews arrived on scene around 3:55 p.m. and found that a “2” gas line had been struck during a digging operation.
A perimeter was established around the leak and hoselines were deployed as a precautionary measure.
Firefighters monitored the atmosphere for gas concentrations.
Several nearby homes were evacuated.
Chesapeake Boulevard between Latimer Circle and Essex Circle was blocked while Norfolk Fire Rescue worked to secure the leak.
. Virginia Natural Gas responded to the scene and will be assessing the damage to the gas line.
