Norfolk, Va. - Is someone stealing Norfolk's parking money?
That's what the city auditor wants to know.
No one will reveal the details of this secret investigation.
But NewsChannel 3 Investigator Mike Mather found out parking cashiers have mishandled more than $10,000 in the past few years.
Cars go in. Cash comes out. Special-event parking in Norfolk is big business. Most of the time, it's $5 per car, and that adds up to around $1.5 million every year.
But not all the money collected goes to the city. The city auditor thinks someone might be stealing. And city records obtained by NewsChannel 3 show cashiers have mishandled $10,000 in the past few years.
For a big, busy event, its easy to see how a parking cashier might come up a few dollars light. But city records show some cashiers come up short $200, $300, even $400.
You park. You pay. But where is this money going? NewsChannel 3 follows the money, Tuesday night at 11. Mike Mather, NewsChannel 3.
