Williamsburg, Va. – Cody Morgan, an Alexandria man, has been charged with maiming and DUI after police say he admitted he was drinking before slamming a truck into a tree and injuring a passenger inside.

This happened on Route 132 and Visitors Center Drive.

When officers arrived on the scene, they saw a white truck had run off of the road and hit a tree. They say the vehicle suffered significant damage and most of it was on the passenger’s side.

Bystanders were trying to help the injured person who was riding in the front seat. They told officers that Morgan smelled like alcohol. Officers say they also detected a strong odor of alcohol from Morgan.

Crews had to rescue the passenger who was trapped in the vehicle at the time.

He was then taken to Riverside Doctor’s Hospital for treatment. Police say he had blood coming from his ears and head, and his arm was disfigured at the shoulder. They say he also suffered multiple skull fractures and his arm was broken.
