Norfolk, Va. - ODU's star quarterback, Taylor Heinicke, suffered a mild concussion in Saturday night's 21 to 17 win over Liberty when he took a hit on a designed run play early in the fourth quarter.
Heinicke, on second and goal, ran the ball around the left side when he had a "major collision" with a Liberty Flame cornerback. Heinicke got up slowly from the play, but returned to the huddle.
It wasn't until after the game when Heinicke was back at his place when he started developing headaches. He called his family, then coach. He was taken to Sentara Norfolk General Hospital where he was checked and released.
Doctors say he suffered concussion-like symptoms. Heinicke was evaluated on Sunday morning and again this morning (Monday) by team physicians.
Old Dominion has a bye week this week before heading to Pittsburgh to play the Panthers next Saturday night.
According to coach, the team will not practice this week and instead work on strength training. As for Taylor Heinicke, he'll concentrate on being a student this week before returning to the practice field.
