Edenton, N.C. - Edenton-Chowan Schools and the College of Albermarle are closed due to a bomb threat.

Officials received a letter in the mail yesterday with a specific threat to the courthouse and non-specific threats to schools, according to Sheriff Dwayne Goodwin.

The letter warned that people, including children, would die and listed today's date with times throughout the morning. The letter contained no specific names of people or schools, just the courthouse, which remains open this morning with extra security.

Bomb-sniffing dogs from Greenville and Currituck conducted a search yesterday and nothing was found to substantiate the threat.

The SBI, FBI, Coast Guard, and Highway Patrol all investigating the threat, and the letter was sent to and SBI lab for DNA and fingerprint tests.

Sheriff Goodwin says he feels confident that there's no credible threat to community but the investigation will continue.

Officials say school will be back in session tomorrow.

Edenton Police assisted the Chowan County Sheriff's Office with the threat. Anyone with information is asked to call 252-482-8484.
