Does your cat or dog need to lose a few pounds? If so, you’re not alone.

According to CBS News, Banfield Pet Hospital has tallied the numbers and they’ve found that nearly one in every four dogs and cats in the U.S. is overweight or obese.

This has become such a problem that the Association for pet obesity has declared October 9th National Pet Obesity Awareness Day.

They say overweight dogs have become 37% more prevalent compared with five years ago.

For cats, the number is 90%

This extra weight means a higher risk of arthritis, heart disease and respiratory problems.
