UPDATE: Man accused of cutting elderly parents’ throats over Social Security check arrested

UPDATE: The man who has been accused of attacking his elderly parents over a Social Security check has been taken into custody. He was caught just after midnight on Friday in the 1200 block of Sunset Drive.

Police say both parents were seriously injured, but they are recovering. They say Bishop is their adopted son. 

Officials say a Crime Line tip led to the arrest. 

Norfolk, Va. - Norfolk Police have arrested a man who they say attacked his elderly parents with a knife after a dispute over a Social Security check on Thursday.

Police say Jessie E. Bishop of the 700 block of Wellington Road stabbed his parents after his father refused to turn over his Social Security check.

Police say the dispute started with the father and when the mother tried to intervene, she was also stabbed. Police say their throats were cut. There's no word on their condition right now.

Warrants were issued for Bishop's arrest.

Norfolk Police report that he was arrested Friday morning.
