Driver charged after minivan crashes into Portsmouth home

Portsmouth, Va. – A woman has been charged after her minivan crashed into a Portsmouth home, police tell NewsChannel 3.

It happened at 12:25 p.m. on Monday, October 21, 2013. Portsmouth Police Communications received a 911 call from a citizen in reference to a single vehicle accident in the 3000 block of Downes Street.

The caller reported that a minivan hit a home in the area.

Officers responded and found that a blue Kia vehicle had run off the roadway and hit the front porch of the home in the area.

Police say the driver, a 49-year-old woman, was still inside the car when medic units were called. The driver refused medical treatment at the scene.

There is noticeable damage to the front porch of the home.

The driver has been charged with driving with a suspended license, according to Detective Misty Holley.
