Chesapeake, Va. (WTKR) - Members of a Chesapeake family that survived a home invasion and brutal beating are talking about their harrowing ordeal.
Taj, who asked that his last name not be used, was coming home from watching football around 12:50 Friday morning when he says three men attacked him as he was opening the door to his family's Orchard Grove Drive home.
"At first I saw two men. One with the gun pointed directly at my face," Taj explained "The other one with the gun held up high coming down."
Taj says the men forced their way inside, one assaulting him with a gun.
"He was pretty much standing at the top of my head and beating me repeatedly with the gun," Taj stated. "Hit me at the top of the head. Which I guess blinded me because so much blood went into my eyes."
The family says the men were wearing masks and hoodies and they didn't get a good look at them, but they do remember what the men kept saying.
"Somebody is going to die tonight. Somebody is going to die tonight," Taj recalls.
As he sat in a pool of blood on the living room floor, the men forced his mother and girlfriend to the floor. However, someone else was in the house- Taj's 12-year-old nephew who was awoken by the commotion.
"They were yelling and stuff and then I hid under my bed," explained the boy, who is not being identified by NewsChannel 3.
When the men went back downstairs, the boy made a split-second decision to jump out of his second-story window to escape.
"When they went down, I opened the window and jumped out and ran," the boy said.
He says he kept thinking about what might happen.
"Are they going to find me? What if they do? What are they going to do if they find me," the boy wondered.
Taj says the men got away with the family's sense of security.
"More than angry, I’m hurt that this had to happen to my family. That my nephew had to jump out of the window – at the age of 12-years-old – jump from the second story window," Taj explained. "My girlfriend had to see me get beat. I mean my clothes are drenched in blood. Everything on me was drenched in blood."
Chesapeake Police are still investigating.
