Of course, it’s not meant to be a Glamour Shot, but why are Virginia’s license photos so unflattering?
According to our sister station WTVR, some folks think they actually look like mugshots.
One woman said, “Makes you look like you’re on the FBI’s most wanted list.”
The black and white photos are taken in front of a white background. They add years and shadows to some people and you’re not allowed to smile.
A DMV spokesperson told WTVR that the photos are embedded in the card to prevent fraud.
They are also thinking about facial recognition technology in the future which is why people are not allowed to smile in their photos.
Other states are already using this technology to catch criminals.
