Magruder Elementary School in York County was evacuated Monday morning because of a strange odor in the building, officials tell NewsChannel 3.
Fire and Life Safety crews completed air quality readings and found them all to be within normal levels.
The source of the odor was traced to the school’s sewage line. Maintenance staff will spend the remainder of the day working on the situation.
The students were transported to Bruton High School for the day. They will remain at Bruton until their regular dismissal time and then be dismissed from Bruton according to their regular dismissal procedures.
The afternoon preschool Monday is cancelled.
Magruder Elementary is ready to resume normal operations and will reopen to students on Tuesday.
The Fire Department is investigating the odor at the school.
