Want to help NASA cover the next launch from Wallops?

NASA is inviting social media users to apply for credentials to attend the launch of the Orbital-1 cargo resupply mission to the International Space Station.

Orbital Sciences Corp.’s Antares rocket is scheduled to launch its Cygnus cargo spacecraft at 10:52 p.m. EST on Sunday, Dec. 15, from Pad-0A at the Mid-Atlantic Regional Spaceport at NASA’s Wallops Flight Facility in eastern Virginia.

A maximum of 50 social media users will be selected to attend the two-day event (the day before launch and launch day) and will be given the same access as news media in an effort to align the experience of social media representatives with those of traditional media.

For U.S. citizens active on social media, the deadline to apply is Nov. 27 at 10 a.m. EST. All social media accreditation applications will be considered on a case-by-case basis.

NASA Social participants will have the opportunity to:

  • View the launch of the Orbital Sciences Corporation’s Antares rocket
  • Meet fellow space enthusiasts who are active on social media
  • Meet and interact with representatives from NASA and Orbital Sciences
  • Meet members of NASA’s social media teams

Registration opens on Nov. 21, 2013 for U.S. citizens active on social media, the deadline to apply is Nov. 27, 2013 at 10 a.m. EST. Click here for more information and the application to register.
