Josh Romney tweets heroics

(CNN) — Josh Romney, one of 2012 Republican presidential nominee Mitt Romney’s five sons, is trumpeting his heroism at the scene of a Thanksgiving Day car wreck in Utah.

“Was first on scene to big accident, see pic of car in the house. I lifted 4 people out to safety. All ok. Thankful,” he tweeted Friday with a picture of himself standing in front of the wreckage, smiling.

CNN affiliate KTVX in Salt Lake City reports that a car crashed Thursday through a house in the city of Holladay, Utah. Police say the driver, who appeared to have suffered a seizure, veered off the road while exiting Interstate 215.

The driver’s wife and two children, who were also in the car, were not seriously injured when the vehicle plowed into the living room while the man inside the house was in another room. The resident was not injured.

While some in the twitterverse were impressed with Romney and thanked him for his stellar actions, a few others thought his smile in the tweeted photo was somewhat out of place considering the damage visible behind him.

In a statement sent to CNN, Romney said he was sitting at the intersection when the vehicle narrowly passed by his car and hit the house.

“I drove to the accident site and entered the home where the car had come to a stop on its side. I opened the driver side door and spoke with the four passengers inside the car,” he said. “Miraculously, they appeared to have no major injuries. I was able to help each of them get out of the car and lift them down to the ground.”

Romney reiterated he was grateful no one was seriously injured.

“What I did to help the people involved in the accident is what anyone else would do who witnessed such a potentially dangerous situation,” he added.
