Special December schedule announced for NCDMV Mobile Unit

Posted 3:05 PM, Dec 13, 2013

Because the Bonner Bridge closure prevents the North Carolina Division of Motor Vehicles’ mobile unit from driving to its usual Hatteras stop, NCDMV has partnered with the N.C. Ferry Division to make sure the mobile unit will be able to serve area citizens.

The Division has announced a special December schedule for the unit’s visit to the island.

“We are thankful for the support of the Ferry Division to make this service available to Hatteras citizens,” DMV Commissioner Kelly J. Thomas said. “It is great to be able to pool our resources to reach out to areas that count on our being there.”

The unit will leave on board the Stumpy Point ferry, arriving in Rodanthe on Dec. 17. It will offer extended service hours to residents while on the island. The unit will park as usual at the Dare County Civic Center, located at 1498 NC Highway 12, throughout its visit.

The mobile unit will be open for driver license service on the following schedule:

Tuesday, Dec. 17, 1 -5 p.m.;
Wednesday, Dec. 18, 8 a.m.-5 p.m.; and
Thursday, Dec. 19, 8 a.m.-1:30 p.m.

NCDMV mobile units offer driver license services to rural areas across the state. The units administer sign tests, written tests and road tests to qualify applicants for a North Carolina driver license. They also issue North Carolina identification cards.
