Weekend event cancellations

Suffolk 

The Downtown Suffolk Holiday Parade which was scheduled for Saturday evening, December 14th, has been cancelled due to the 100% shower predictions, cold temperatures and prolonged rain event which has been forecast for the City of Suffolk from the National Weather Service.

Other holiday-related events scheduled for the weekend will continue, including:

• Holiday Craft Storytime at the North Suffolk Library on Saturday, December 14th, from 10:30 a.m. until 11:30 a.m. The entire family can enjoy stories, songs and a holiday craft to take home. The North Suffolk Library is located at 2000 Bennetts Creek Park Road. For more information, please call 757-514-7150.

Surry Co.

Surry County Parks and Recreation Christmas Parade has been cancelled

The Surry County Parks and Recreation Christmas Parade scheduled for 3:00 p.m., Saturday, December 14, 2013, in the Town of Surry, has been cancelled due to the predicted weather for the weekend. No rain date has been scheduled.

Hampton

The Holly-Days parade in Downtown Hampton scheduled for Saturday, December 14, 2013, has been cancelled due to expected rain, according to the City of Hampton.

Hampton, Va. – Hampton Holly Days Parade: Joy to the World, scheduled for tomorrow, Saturday, December 14 at 7:00 p.m. in Downtown Hampton, has been cancelled due to expected rain.

The Sixth annual First Light Celebration, commemorating the first recorded English Christmas in North America (which took place in Hampton), will go on as scheduled. The event is free, taking place 5:00 p.m. – 6:30 p.m.

Hear about the first recorded English Christmas in North America, make several different heirloom ornaments that your family will cherish for years to come, hear some of Hampton’s best choirs share traditional music, raise your voice with karaoke caroling, enjoy refreshments from Cracker Barrel and the Magnolia House, and watch a nostalgic train display.

The Sixth annual First Light Celebration concludes with the lighting of the blue star atop the Hampton History Museum, paying tribute to the first recorded English Christmas in North America.

Joy to the World (the parade route) begins at Eaton Street, proceeds down Settlers Landing Road, and ends at Darling Stadium. Be sure to come out early and secure a good spot. Free parking is available throughout downtown Hampton.

Poquoson

The Poquoson Lighted Boat Parade, scheduled for this Saturday, December 14, has been rescheduled for Sunday, December 15 from 5 p.m. until 8 p.m. at Whitehouse Cove Marina in Poquoson. Officials made the decision due to heavy rains expected on Saturday night. The event serves as a charity fundraiser for high school sailing. Chili and she crab soup will be on sale.
