The National Weather Service has issued a Winter Weather Advisory for freezing rain until 10 a.m. this morning for parts of central North Carolina, mainly along and north of U.S. 64.
The N.C. Department of Transportation called in crews shortly after the advisory was issued this morning.
Crews are out treating icy spots with a salt and sand mixture.
Motorists should use extra caution this morning, especially on bridges and overpasses, which freeze first, officials say.
NCDOT encourages motorists to check conditions before you go.
