New Year’s closings across Hampton Roads

Portsmouth

All Portsmouth city offices, libraries, and recreation centers will close at noon on Tuesday, December 31 and will be closed on Wednesday, January 1 – New Year’s Day.

Portsmouth museums will close at 5 p.m. on New Year’s Eve and will be closed on New Year’s Day.

Norfolk

The City Treasurer’s Office will close at 12:00 p.m. on December 31.

Nauticus and the Battleship Wisconsin will be open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Wednesday, January 1.

Suffolk

In observance of the New Year’s holiday, Suffolk City offices will be closed from Tuesday, December 31, 2013 at 12 p.m. through Wednesday, January 1, 2014.

Normal operations will resume Thursday, January 2, 2014, at 8:30 a.m.

The Suffolk Tourism Visitor Center will close at 3 p.m. on Tuesday, December 31, 2013, through Wednesday, January 1, 2014. The Visitor Center will reopen on Thursday, January 2, 2014, at 9 a.m.

All Suffolk City Libraries will be closed from Tuesday, December 31, 2013 at 12 p.m. through Wednesday, January 1, 2014. All Library Branches reopen at their normal times on Thursday, January 2, 2014.

The Suffolk Art Gallery will be closed Saturday, December 21, 2013, through Monday, January 6, 2014. “Suffolk Faces,” an exhibit featuring photography from Glen McClure, will be on display from January 7 through January 25, 2014.

All Suffolk Joint Use Recreation Centers (Mack Benn, Booker T. Washington, Creekside, Northern Shores, and Oakland) will be open for youth basketball practices ONLY on Tuesday, December 31, 2013 and will be closed Wednesday, January 1, 2014. The East Suffolk Recreation Center will close at 6 p.m. on Tuesday, December 31 and remain closed Wednesday, January 1, 2014. The Suffolk Parks & Recreation Administration Office will be closed from Tuesday, December 31, 2013 at 12 p.m. through Wednesday, January 1, 2014. The office will reopen on Thursday, January 2, 2014. Suffolk’s four major parks – Lone Star Lakes, Constant’s Wharf, Sleepy Hole, and Bennett’s Creek will remain open during the holiday; however, no park attendant will be on duty.

The Suffolk Executive Airport terminal will close on Tuesday, December 31, 2013 at 12 p.m. and reopen on Thursday, January 2, 2014. The Airport will remain open to aviation traffic.

Trash normally scheduled for pickup on Wednesday, January 1, 2014 will be collected on Thursday, January 2. Trash normally scheduled for pickup on Thursday, January 2 will be picked up on Friday, January 3. Trash normally scheduled for pickup on Friday, January 3 will be picked up on Saturday, January 4. TFC Recycling will also follow the holiday schedule with a one day delay on normally scheduled routes. Suffolk Public Works Department reminds you that trash must be placed at curbside no later than 7 a.m. on the day of collection. From December 26, 2013 through January 8, 2014, the Suffolk Department of Public Works Refuse Division will collect all Christmas trees and boxes as a special collection. During these two weeks, Christmas trees and boxes will not be
counted towards the 12 free special collections. Any Christmas trees put out for collection after January 8, 2014 will be picked up but will count as a special collection. The trees and boxes will need to be placed at the curb the same day as the residence’s regular collection. The trees do not have to be secured and the boxes do not have to be collapsed.

The Southeastern Public Safety Authority (SPSA) Transfer Station in Suffolk will be closed on Wednesday, January 1, 2014, and will resume regular operating hours on Thursday, January 2. The Regional Landfill will be closed Wednesday, January 1, 2014. The landfill will resume regular operating hours on Thursday, January 2. Additionally, the Regional Landfill will be closed on Saturday, January 4 and the Suffolk Transfer Station will be open from 7 a.m. to 12 p.m. (or until the City of Suffolk finishes refuse collection) on Saturday, January 4.

Virginia Beach
