Newport News, Va. – A man is now facing assault charges after an incident at an adult living facility in Newport News, police tell NewsChannel 3.
On Sunday, January 5, 2014 at 7:45 a.m., police responded to 311 Main Street, Hilton Plaza Home for Adults, in reference to a fight in progress.
Police officers found the victim, a 63-year-old male resident of the home, who told police that John Smith, also a resident, assaulted him.
Police say the two men were in an argument; Smith believed the victim had some of his personal property. The argument escalated to a physical fight where Smith placed the victim in a head lock using his legs, choking the victim. The home’s staff and witnessing residents separated the men as police arrived on the scene, officials say.
Smith has been identified as the aggressor.
Smith was arrested and charged with impeding blood circulation and respiration resulting in bodily injury, and assault. The victim did not need medical attention, police say.
