Hampton, Va. – A BB gun was found in a backpack at Lindsay Middle School in Hampton on Wednesday morning.
Hampton Police say at 8:43 a.m., a School Resource Officer was told by a bus driver that they saw the juvenile with the weapon.
The school was immediately placed on lockdown while they searched for the weapon.
After a complete search of the entire school, a toy gun that shoots plastic pellets was located in an unattended book bag, officials say.
The lockdown was lifted at 10:13 a.m.
The investigation has revealed that earlier this morning, a 12-year-old Hampton male juvenile shot a female student with the same toy gun. It happened between the student’s home and the bus stop.
The student was not injured, and the parents do not wish to prosecute at this time.
The individual responsible has been identified, and both incidents are being handled administratively.
Due to the nature of these incidents, there will be an increase in police presence at and around Lindsay Middle School throughout the day on Thursday, January 16.
