Williamsburg, Va. - There were a few icy spots here and there, but for the most part, the roadways in Williamsburg were clear on Thursday.
After two days of spraying salt and sand mix, VDOT's hard work has paid off.
“They have cleared up a lot since yesterday. Even coming up the interstate, all the roads were clear. All the major roads were clear so the sun has definitely been doing its job, and I give it to VDOT too, they have been doing their job,” says Rodney Hammond, a U.S. Postal Service worker.
Workers at the postal office like Hammond did not get any breaks because of the snow ; he says his route today ran fine, but he still came in a little early and of course packed on the clothes.
“I have on under armor, three t-shirts, a shirt, and my post office shirt, so I just layer myself so I won't be too bulky,” says Hammond.
For kids in Williamsburg, the snow meant no school and two days to play.
“It was nice to actually get snow for once here,” says Apryl Bowen, a Williamsburg resident.
This weather is not something we see very often in these parts whether you are working or playing. If you plan to drive, you need to use extra caution.
VDOT has been out all day spraying salt and sand to make sure the roadways stay clear as the temperatures go back down again tonight. Remember with all the snow that melted today, the worry now is going to be black ice.
