Dominion Virginia Power has had more than 5,000 customers affected by power outages since 6 p.m. Tuesday.
As of 7:30 a.m., Dominion was down to about 17 outages.
The biggest trouble was in Northern North Carolina, Elizabeth City area, according to Bonita Harris of Dominion Virginia Power. About 2,500 customers lost power in that area.
Another outage was in Norfolk on Widgeon Road, affecting 425 customers.
About 100-200 customers were affected by power outages in Hampton, Norfolk, and Virginia Beach.
The cold temperature and amount of snow has caused some equipment failure and poor road conditions, Harris says.
