Recently released black bear wanders into neighborhood

Posted

A few bears from the Virginia Wildlife Center in Waynesboro were released into the wild, but now one is back.

It turns out she was not your average bear. She started hanging around with humans.

They are cute and look cuddly and it turns out at least one of them is a little too friendly. Last year was a record year for the Virginia Wildlife Center. Twenty-five bears came into the center. They ended up raising 17 of the bear cubs until they were ready to be released into the wild. Last week, five cubs were released, but one wandered into a neighborhood and tried to make some human friends, especially the ones with food.

“This one turned out to be I guess a little more interested in people than we would like, so she is back with us and we're moving on to plan b,” says Amanda Nicholson, a spokesperson for the Virginia Wildlife Center.

Mother Nature will help with plan b. The bears will be sleeping a lot for the next few months. It is winter, after all.
