Virginia Beach, Va. - The Virginia Aquarium had some special additions Saturday. Mermaids performed for visitors both in and out of the water for "Mermaid Day."
Malena the Mermaid joined some of the creatures in the Red Sea Aquarium. Families watched as she swam through the exhibit and interacted with visitors.
The Hurrah Players also treated people to a show along the Promenade Hallway. They gave a sneak peek of scenes from Disney's "The Little Mermaid," which they'll be performing March 14 - 16.
The Virginia Aquarium plans to hold another "Mermaid Day" in the fall.
Organizers say it's not only fun - it helps promote education and conservation for marine environments.
