A Hampton Police officer caught two people attempting to steal a boat overnight.
Police say an officer spotted a pickup truck speeding through the parking lot of Bass Pro Shop.
The truck ran through a stop sign and made a left turn onto Pine Chapel Road. About 50-feet down the road, the boat disconnected from the hitch and fell back down the hill.
The suspects attempted to fix the hitch but were unsuccessful.
The driver, Larry Spruill, and passenger, Amanda Murphy, were both arrested and charged with grand larceny of the boat.
