The M/V Carteret was blown onto a sandbar by high winds just outside of Ocracoke Island on Friday morning, according to the North Carolina Ferry System.
There were no injuries to crew or passengers, and no apparent damage to the vessel, officials say.
The NC Ferry System has contacted the Coast Guard and says the tug M/V Albemarle is on the way. The tug should arrive around 12 p.m. Once the vessel is off the sandbar, it will return to Ocracoke to disembark passengers and vehicles.
