N.C. 12 weekend closure for pipe replacement

NCDOT crews will close N.C. 12 at milepost 65 in Frisco at 7:00 p.m. on Friday, February 28, 2014 for a necessary culvert pipe replacement.

The road will reopen no later than 6 a.m. on Monday, March 3.

The culvert pipe being replaced is located south of Timber Trail in Frisco.

The pipe stretches underneath both lanes of N.C. 12. To perform the replacement, NCDOT must remove the existing pipe, lay new pipe, and reconstruct the road surface. The culvert replacement was coordinated to occur during the slower visitation season and prior to a resurfacing project for N.C. 12 scheduled for the spring, officials say.

Anne Bowers owns Indian Town Gallery in Frisco right in front of the construction. She's staying optimistic that the weekend disruption won't hurt business too much.

"You know it could be bad, it could be good. I only do but so much business this time of year, but then again people are stopped out in front of the shops so maybe people who haven't noticed us are noticing us now," she commented.
