Firefighters busy throughout the day responding to multiple fires

Posted

Norfolk, Va. – Firefighters in several Hampton Roads cities remained busy throughout the day Saturday responding to multiple calls of fires.

One call came in to Portsmouth just after 9 a.m. in the Truxton area of the city. Firefighters responded near the intersection of Downes Drive and Armistead Drive for a garage that was on fire.

Once crews arrived on scene they found a detached garage fully engulfed in flames. The flames were so severe they had to water down two houses to prevent the fire from spreading.

Firefighters say neighbors believed they saw kids running from the scene and now an arson investigator is looking into the cause.

Firefighters also responded to two other fires later in the afternoon, one also in Portsmouth and another in Norfolk.

We’re told by fire officials that both fires are believed to be cooking related.
