The Navy is close to eliminating tobacco sales on all bases and ships, according to the Navy Times.
In a statement released Monday, Cmdr. Tamara Lawrence, a spokeswoman for Navy Secretary Ray Mabus, said Mabus “has implemented a number of initiatives to improve the culture of fitness in the Navy and Marine Corps, and curbing tobacco use is part of that improvement.”
Navy commissaries do not currently sell tobacco products, but the changes would mean all retail outlets, including exchange-operated outlets, and MWR outlets, would no longer sell tobacco products.
