A Newport News man was arrested Monday morning and charged with child neglect after police found him with his two children in unsafe conditions.
Newport News Police say they were dispatched to Leeward Marina around 9:20 a.m. to check on the welfare of two children that were on a boat visiting their father.
Police say they arrived and found 32-year-old Victor Jermaine Jackson, and his two sons, ages 7 and 5.
The 7-year-old was reportedly wearing a jacket and no other clothing.
A relative told police that the boy’s clothing was soaked in urine and had no other change of clothing.
Officers also saw a gun lying on a table within arm’s reach of the children.
The children were returned to their mother.
Jackson was arrested and charged with child neglect.
