(CNN) – Even a cat has no choice but to jump sometimes, and a raging fire at a Florida apartment complex was one of those times.

The cat on a hot 3rd floor first retreated, scared by the firemen. But when things got too hot, Charley Jasper jumped…landed on his feet and kept going.

Firemen found him a short distance away. Owner Josue Aleecia said he had lost everything except the cat that shared his apartment.

Now maybe you’ve heard of cats surviving falls from as high up as 34 floors, so what’s the big deal about 3 floors?

Well, actually cats that fall from lower floors tend to have WORSE injuries than those that fall from higher floors.

National Geographic reported on a study done at New York’s Animal Medical Center.

It seems that cats that fall from higher stories have enough time to reach freefall like a parachutist and are relaxed.

There’s nothing relaxing about what happened to two newborn kittens who were accidentally packed up and shipped 130 miles to a COX Communications warehouse in San Diego.

Employees got suspicious when someone heard meowing coming out of a 3 by 5 crate. One of the workers called a nephew who works at the San Diego Humane Society.

The Humane Society’s president figures the mother cat probably gave birth in or near the crate and then the box got shipped with the kittens inside.

They were named WiFi and Mouse and will be put up for adoption.
