School bus accident reported in Newport News

Newport News, Va. - A school bus accident has been reported in Newport News, police tell NewsChannel 3.

It happened at 72nd Street and Warwick Blvd. around 6 a.m. Monday morning.

The school bus was heading to Woodside High School, going northbound on Warwick Blvd.

A woman was driving a black sedan that rear-ended the bus, then veered off and struck a tree. Very minor damage was done to the bus, but there was significant damage to the sedan.

Two Woodside High School students were on the bus at the time. Their parents responded to the scene and picked them up. One student, a 17-year-old girl, complained of a headache. She was checked out at the scene and released to her parents, police say.

The driver of the black sedan complained of wrist pain. She was also examined at the scene. Police say her father came to pick her up.

There are charges pending against the driver of the black sedan.
