Virginia Beach, Va. - Beginning Monday, May 12, 2014, Virginia Beach Public Works and Public Utilities will coordinate a construction project on South Plaza Trail to replace sewer pipes and make traffic improvements.
Public Utilities will address defects in the sanitary sewer mainline along South Plaza Trail by replacing pipe between Boyd Road and Daytona Drive.
Following completion of the Public Utilities project, Public Works will begin the South Plaza Road project.
The project includes removing the raised median from Continental Street to Boyd Road and replacing it with a dual left turn lane.
Bicycle lanes will be established from Boyd Road to Rosemont Road, and some sections of sidewalk from Boyd Road to Rosemont Road will also be replaced. New ADA ramps will also be installed at the corners.
During construction, the outside lanes of South Plaza Trail between Boyd Road and Daytona Drive will be open. Left turn lanes onto Boyd Road and Daytona Drive will be closed at certain periods during construction. Warning signs will be posted advising motorists of the lane closures.
The project is scheduled to begin on May 12, and is expected to be completed by mid-September.
All work is weather permitting.
