A young child was tossed to safety out of a second floor window in Newport News Tuesday night around 10.

"We told them to throw the baby," said Sequoia Johnson. "We caught the baby boy, then she came down, then a bigger one came too."

Two women in their early 20s, one of them with a young child, were in their Hickory Point Boulevard home.

Police say an armed, masked man came up to their door, yelling that he was the police and for them to come out with their hands up.

Neighbors then saw the women rushing upstairs, the armed man was inside the apartment.

The next door neighbor brought out her couch cushions, placing them on a bush for padding, as the women tossed the child down to neighbors.

By the time police got here the women were out, safely in the care of neighbors. The masked man was no where to be found.
