UPDATE: The driver has been identified as Richard Doughtie, 51 and Eugenie Doughtie, 54, both of Courtland. Investigators say the vehicle ran off the road to the right and the driver over corrected and lost control. Both were wearing seat belts.
Around 7:00pm Sunday, the Southampton County Sheriff’s Office received a report of a car accident on Governor Darden Road near Courtland, Va.
Two people died as a result of the crash.
Identities of the victims are being held as their relatives are notified.
The cause of the crash is still under investigation.
