An investigation has revealed that the fatal accident involving a tractor-trailer that crashed into a maintenance truck on the Chesapeake Bay Bridge-Tunnel before jack-knifing and crashing into the Chesapeake Bay in May was caused by “driver inattentiveness,” a CBBT spokesperson confirmed on Tuesday.

The investigation revealed that there were no marks found that indicated that the driver tried to stop the truck before hitting the maintenance truck.

Skid marks were present but not until the maintenance truck had already been hit.

The CBBT spokesperson also confirmed that an autopsy reported determined that the cause of death for the truck driver was drowning.

The driver was identified as 45-year-old Daawuud Z. Hakim of Chesapeake. His body was recovered from the truck nearly two days after the crash.
